About Mel Wheatley

Experienced Instructor

Melanie is a PPR Certified Professional Pickleball Instructor and DUPR Coach. Prior to pickleball, Melanie played competitive tennis for over 20 years. She played her college tennis at Rutgers University where she was their #1 ranked singles player for two years in a row. She went on to compete on the National Senior Women’s Tennis Circuit for 18 years. There, she won 4 US.National Tennis Championships and received the #1 ranking in the Nation by the USTA for 2 years in a row. She also won 2 bronze medals at the Senior Tennis World Championships in Perth Australia and Amsterdam. In all, she has won 20 medals in National and International Championship competition.

Business History

Established in 2017

Melanie started playing Pickleball in 2011 and fell in love with the game. She began teaching pickleball in 2017. In 2018 she signed with The City of Newport Beach Recreation Department to develop their Pickleball program. Since then, the program has grown to offering 20 pickleball classes for more than 160 students per week. These classes range from beginner to compitation level of play. She is currently contracted with The City of Newport Beach until 2030. In addition, in 2020 Melanie was recruited by the Tennis & Pickleball Club of Newport Beach to help develop their Pickleball program. There, she offers Private and Group Lessons plus she developed and ran the Club's TTC Paddles Up Pickleball Camps.
